On August 28, 09, the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) published a new funding scheme entitled 'Germany - USA Collaboration in Computational Neuroscience'.

The funding scheme "Germany - USA Collaboration in Computational Neuroscience" is a transnational initiative for supporting collaborative research between Germany and the United States of America. it is jointly funded by the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) and the National Science Foundation (NSF).

The German-American Workshop "Growing Connections in Computational Neuroscience" that took place in June 2008 in Munich demonstrated the necessity of a dedicated funding measure for supporting German-American research cooperations. Therefore, both countries agreed on funding joint collaborative research projects in the field of Computational Neuroscience. In parallel to the German announcement by the BMBF, the National Science Foundation has published the announcement as Dear Colleague Letter.

Applications to this funding measure must be submitted with identical work plans to NSF and BMBF:

  1. Submission to NSF (corresponding to NSF Announcement 08-514, American partner):
within the program 'Collaborative Research in Computational Neuroscience', until November 17, 2009.  The proposal titel must start with the phrase 'US-German Collaboration'. The application to NSF must be submitted by the American research partner. The budget for the German partner can be included in the respective NSF form or in a separate document.
